Some wedding days feel wonderfully easy to be part of. People gather outside, conversations carry on between the tables, and there’s always something happening just beyond the main event. Marie and Tim’s wedding at Beaumont Hall had so much of that warmth. These photographs bring together their outdoor ceremony, time beneath the trees and a tipi celebration that came alive as the evening arrived.

A tipi wedding venue near St Albans

Beaumont Hall sits on Redbourn Road, just outside St Albans in Hertfordshire. The secluded lawns and Georgian, Grade II-listed farmhouse give the setting its character. The house is a backdrop to the celebrations rather than part of the hire, so the outdoor spaces and tipis are at the heart of the experience.

The venue works with Country Tipis, with its three-tipi arrangement listed for up to 150 seated guests or 200 standing. For couples who love the idea of long tables, open space and a day that feels personal, there’s a lot to enjoy here. Ask the team which layout suits your guest list and how the spaces work in different weather.

Marie and Tim’s day, from the first smiles to the last dance

Their photographs begin with the preparations: a watch being fastened, the finishing touches to Marie’s makeup, and the delighted reaction to seeing her in her dress. There was even time for a little football before the celebrations. I love keeping those smaller moments in the story; they bring back more than the way everything looked.

The outdoor ceremony brought everyone together, with smiles between Marie and Tim, rings exchanged and confetti waiting afterwards. Later, yellow flowers, wooden tables and personal photographs gave the tipis a warm, welcoming feel. The speeches brought plenty of laughter, and the dance floor had an energy all of its own, with a saxophonist joining the party.

Making time for photographs in the grounds

The tree-lined path was a lovely place for Marie and Tim to step away together. The repeating trunks frame the photographs beautifully, while the space between them lets us make both wider pictures of the setting and closer portraits of the two of you.

You don’t need to know how to pose. A short walk, a little gentle guidance and time to settle into each other’s company are often all it takes. I’ll look for the light and backgrounds that work on the day, leaving you free to enjoy being together.

I also want the photographs to show the celebration around you. The open tipi entrance, flowers on the tables and friends leaning in for a conversation all help tell the story. After dark, the lit tipis have a completely different atmosphere; one evening photograph can be a beautiful way to finish the collection.

Planning your wedding photography at Beaumont Hall

Build in a little breathing room after the ceremony. You’ll want time for hugs, drinks and catching up, as well as any family photographs. A short list of the group pictures that matter most helps us organise them smoothly and get you back to your guests.

For couple portraits, I’d usually suggest a short session rather than a long time away. If the light becomes particularly lovely later on, we can step outside again for a few minutes. The right timing depends on the season, the weather and the plans for your meal and speeches.

Talk through your wet-weather arrangement with the venue, including how guests move between spaces. Then we can plan the photographs around it. A little thought beforehand means you can spend the day enjoying the people you’ve brought together.

Can you have your legal wedding ceremony at Beaumont Hall?

Beaumont Hall currently says it is not licensed for legal wedding ceremonies, but it can host a blessing or non-legal ceremony. If you’re imagining an outdoor celebration here, ask the venue about the arrangements and plan the legal part of your marriage separately. That distinction is useful to know early, before you settle the timings for your day.

Is there somewhere to stay?

The venue also offers Beaumont Mews: seven self-contained places to stay in converted heritage barns. If you’d like to stay nearby before or after the wedding, check availability and booking arrangements with the team. Accommodation is something to confirm alongside your venue plans rather than assume is included.
