What To Wear For Your Engagement Session

Congratulations, you're engaged! Check out these tips that will ensure you look your best for your engagement session. Knowing what to wear for your engagement session can sometimes be confusing, fear not, after reading this article you will know everything you need for great photos. Here are my suggestions as a professional photographer, on what you should wear for your engagement session.

1. Choose clothes that make you feel YOU!

The more comfortable you are with your style of outfit, the less awkward you’ll feel when posing in front of the camera :). Stick with your 'style' and what makes you truly feel beautiful and comfortable.

2. Complement each other, but don't match.

Please avoid matching your partner's outfit and wearing patterns that are far too busy. Stick to solid colours for your outfits. Complimenting colours work even better in creating beautiful portraits.

Pay particular attention to your colour scheme. If you'd like to wear a nice blue dress, try adding the same blue hue in one of your fiance's accessories, this can be a great way to complement his outfit instead of matching.

3. Wear pastels, neutral tones, and cool colours

Shy away from bold colours like orange and red. Pastels, cool colours and neutral tones will help your any light bouncing off each other be a better tint for gorgeous skin tones.

4. Add an accessory

Adding a nice accessory to your outfit can really create a gorgeous portrait. Think as simple as a cute scarf or necklace.

5. Stick with one to two outfits

Remember, this is your engagement session, not a fashion session. Having too many outfits can take precious time away from your portraits, leading to you feeling rushed and stressed to jump into different outfits.

If you choose one or two outfits you can be focussed on the session and there will be more opportunities to try out new locations and poses. This will ultimately give you the best experience and produce much better portraits for you both.

6. Think classic, not trendy

Decide on an outfit that will be timeless. You really don't want to look back on your engagement session photos years from now and think, why on earth was I wearing that? There are certain fads in the fashion world, so don't be tempted to experiment with these in your photoshoot. Opt for a classic outfit that is both comfortable and will age well in time.

7. Embrace the season

Unsure on what to wear for your winter or autumnal session. Don't be afraid to wrap up in style.

Wearing stylish winter and autumnal clothing with accessories can still make your engagement sessions look great, despite the cold weather.
